Obituary for Svea J. Hoover (Eckert)

Svea Jean Eckert Hoover, 80, died on July 31, 2017 at Hospice & Community Care in Mt. Joy, following a brief illness.
She leaves her husband of 61 years, Raymond M. Hoover of New Holland; son, Gordon B. Hoover, wife Carole; daughters Lisa High, husband James, and Audrey Kieschnick, husband Alan; five grandchildren, Jill, Brenda, and Leslie Hoover, Alex High, wife Lauren, and Kelsey Stamper, husband Nathaniel; and two great grandchildren, Moses and Eden Stamper.
She was the daughter of Adam and Eva Eckert, and the sister of Carl Eckert, all deceased. Born and raised in Lititz, she graduated from Lititz High School in 1954. She maintained a very close relationship with her high school girl friends, all of whom got together regularly for card club for the past 60 years – a highlight of her life. Golfing with her 9 “Holer” girls, square dancing with friends and golf trips to Myrtle Beach, SC over the years brought her great joy.
Svea loved music and was a violinist since high school. She was a member of the Lancaster Senior Orchestra and played her great, great grandfathers violin which he carried in the civil war. She enjoyed singing in the Lanchester Chorus and the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Choir in Narvon, where she was an active member of the congregation for over 61 years. She was the first woman to serve on the Pequea Valley School Board, which she did so for 10 years, and she participated in the Book Club at the Pequea Valley Public Library.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charities: VisionCorps Foundation in Lancaster (www.visioncorps.net), or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
Above all else, her family, friends and faith were the most important things in her life. There will be no service, just wonderful memories.
