Obituary for James N. "Jimmy" Houck

James N. "Jimmy"  Houck
James N. (Jimmy) Houck, 78, of New Holland passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy, from lung cancer.

He was born in New Holland, to the late Chester and Ruth (Kellenberger) Houck. He was the husband of Joyce (Kreiser) Houck for 59 years. He graduated from New Holland High School.

Jimmy was a self-employed barber in New Holland, retiring in May due to his illness, after 60 years of service and dedication to his customers.

Surviving Jimmy in addition to his wife Joyce, is a daughter Barbara married to Neal Vital, Lancaster and a granddaughter Keri Vital, Lancaster.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul, and his beloved daughter Jan Marie Houck.

Jimmy was a member of the New Holland American Legion Post 662 and the American Legion Riders where he was a chaplain. He was also a member of the Howell Lodge, F. & A.M., Honey Brook and the Lancaster and Reading Lodge of Perfection. He also was a member of the Beartown Sportsman’s Association.

He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and had a collection of Harley Davidson memorabilia. He also enjoyed history, especially the Civil War and participated in Civil War re-enactments at Gettysburg.

He was a member of Intercourse United Methodist Church.

His funeral will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland with Pastor Gary W. Carter, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery, Leola. A viewing will be held at Groff-High on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 – 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice & Community Care, P. O.
