THE FLOWER POT

Our kind and gracious Aunt Marie loved flowers and plants.  If you recall ever passing her home, she always had a seasonal plant or a display of beautiful flowers on a table.  On the outside there were neat plants and small bunches of yellow, purple and pink colorful spring flowers planted around the walkway to the side door.  It was evident she was a lover of nature's beauty.

At a wedding celebration, Aunt Marie and I sat at the same table. There was a seemingly beautiful display of flowers on one of the tables which was a number of tables away from ours where no one was sitting.  After this lovely event all the flowers on the tables where people sat had been taken home by others, then thinking, what a great idea it would be to take the flowers home on that particular table where no one had been sitting and were the ones that initially caught the eye.  Taken back by the display of big beaufiful purple leaves, bright red and soft yellow hues.  They would only be discarded so why not?   Happily carrying our pot of flowers to the car was an interesting experience.  Aunt Marie had no real sense of smell due to a prior sinus surgery and well,  I just didn't know and was very surprised to find out that these flowers were not flowers at all!  Walking through the parking lot, which was dimly lit, I couldn't really see the pot of flowers well at all!  I took a sniff and then again another sniff.  Then I proceeded to pass them over to Aunt Marie who sniffed them as well.  She commented with....humm Oh yes!  Due to her surgrey and not being able to smell them (at the time I did not know about her surgrey or lack of smell) she too thought they were real flowers!

When I smelt them again for a thrid time and felt the large purple leaf in my hand, I realized they were not flowers at all but were furits and vegtables carved to look like flowers!  The bright reds were strawberries, the soft hues of yellow pinapple chunks, the big purple leaves were huge leaves of cabbage!  Well needless to say we laughed so hard all the way to the car that Uncle Arthur scolded us mentioning we sounded drunk!  We assured him we were not drunk but rather in sticthes due to the unique treasure we discoved, a veggi and furit flowers garden in a pot!   Fooled but way funny for us and a fond memory we will never forget!
