Obituary for Mabel E. Weaver (Sauder)
Mabel E. Weaver, 102, of Ephrata, formerly of New Holland, died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Fairmount Homes.
Born in East Earl, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Mary Catherine (Erb) Sauder. Her husband, Raymond H. Weaver, died Feb. 5, 2008. She was a member at Lichty’s Mennonite Church.
Mabel was the second youngest child of 14 children living on a dairy farm below Lichty’s Mennonite Church. She worked at Miller-Hess Shoe Factory in Akron before marriage. After marriage to Raymond Weaver, most of their life was spent farming near New Holland. Mabel is remembered by her gentle spirit and smile. Many of her visitors at Fairmount recount her excellent cooking and the meals she hosted. Quilts and sewing occupied her winter months. During the summer she grew food for the family and sold the extra produce and flower plants. In her fifties she worked at the New Holland Seafood Store. Family was very important to Mabel and they were always welcomed at their home. She loved God and the church and her life desire was to do right for God. For the past 10+ years she resided at Fairmount where again she was known for her gracious spirit and smile.
Surviving are six children, Wilmer, married to Theresa Weaver of Fredericksburg, Lamar, married to Carolyn Weaver of Lancaster, David Weaver of Lancaster, Earl, married to Marilyn Weaver of New Holland, Joyce, married to Alvin Stoner of Fredericksburg, and Janice, married to David Horning of Bowmansville; 20 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is a son, R. Clair Weaver; a daughter-in-law, Anna May Weaver; a granddaughter, Kimberly Weaver; a great granddaughter, Alexa Van Steenvoort; and she is the last of her 13 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 22 at 10 am at Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community, 210 Weaverland Valley Road, East Earl with Randy Bowman, Aaron Horst, and Les Stoner officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 1-3 pm at Fairmount Homes, Wheat Ridge Chapel, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, PA 17522 and on Monday from 9-10 am at Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community.
