I remember moving to Lancaster County to teach at Locust Grove Mennonite School in 1987. I was adjusting to a new community, a new job, and a new church. J Lester lead the Locust Grove faculty in a devotional during one of our beginning-of-the-year teacher in-service days. He had each of us make a paper boat, and he told the story of Jesus calming the storm. He related the story to where each of us were at the beginning of a new school year. Stickers of Jesus' face were added to our boats to remind us that with Jesus in our boats we could smile at the storms of life. His devotional really connected with me and I still think of it when I read or tell the story now.
May each of you know Jesus in the boat with you as you adjust to life here on earth without your parents.
