Obituary for Venancio M. "Peanut" Abreu

Venancio M. "Peanut"  Abreu
Venancio M. “Peanut” Abreu, 91, of New Holland, passed away on March 11, 2017 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. He was the loving husband of Juana M. (Colon) Abreu, with whom he shared over 73 years of marriage.

Born in Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Angel Medina and Juana Abreu.

Venancio was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He worked as a machinist for Sperry New Holland for over 22 years. In his spare time he enjoyed guitar playing, fishing, boating, gardening, and hunting. He hosted many pig roasts. He was a Phillies and Eagles fan. He was also a recreational farmer, and loved tending goats, pigs, geese, and ducks.

In addition to his wife, Venancio is survived by 6 children: Barbara Frankhouser, wife of Harold, of Narvon, Julia Hankle, wife of Bill, of Lititz, twin sons Ped Abreu, husband of Nancy, of Lancaster, and Carmelo Abreu, husband of Judith, of Reinholds, Lydia Griffith, wife of Jerry, of New Holland, and Juan Abreu of Lancaster; a sister, Elana Rodriguez of New Jersey; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Angel Colon, his son Louie Abreu, his daughter-in-law Hwa Abreu, a great-grandson Joshua Hux, and 9 siblings: Crusito, Pacasio, Juanito, Santo, Maria, Tonita, Blanca, Isabelo, and Julia.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 150 Water St., New Holland Pa 17557 with Father Walter Guzman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 – 11 AM at the church prior to services. Arrangements by Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.
