Obituary for Mary Jane Riker

Mary Jane  Riker
Mary Jane Riker, 92, of 13 Western Ave., New Holland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Hospice & Community Care. Her husband, Melvin D. Riker, preceded her in death in 2011.

Born in East Earl, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Laura (Horst) Overly.

She was a homemaker and a lifetime, active member of Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church.

She was a Red Cross volunteer for over 30 years at Lancaster General Hospital and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are four children: Ted married to Nancy (Groff) Riker, New Holland; Joyce married to Gail Weaver, New Holland; Jan married to Lonny Freitag, Hardy, NE; Beth married to Gary Bich, New Holland; 14 grandchildren: Mandy Hershey, Josh Riker, Hannah Jackson, Zach Riker, Amy Weaver, Andrew Weaver, Laura Weaver, Sam Weaver, Matt Freitag, Nate Freitag, Rachel Figgins, Dan Bich, Sarah Wilson, and Seth Bich; 26 great grandchildren; six siblings: Harvey Overly, Narvon, Margaret “Peg” Kreider, Leola, Alfred Overly, Manheim, Hiram Overly, Ephrata, Edwin Overly, New Holland, Ken Overly, Reading.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Chester and John Overly, Mildred Bassler, and Betty Ovensen.

The family wishes to thank the Green Team and all of the staff on the 100 wing of the Hospice Center for their compassionate and attentive care of Mary Jane in her final weeks.

A graveside service will be held at Zeltenreich Cemetery on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 9 a.m. for those wishing to attend. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, 4833 Division Hwy., East Earl, PA 17519 with Pastor Kris Poontajak officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10 – 11 a.m. If desired, memorials may be sent to Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, address above or Hospice & Community Care, P. O.
