Obituary for Carmen L. "Connie" Gerlich (Brito)

Carmen “Connie” Luisia (Brito) Gerlich, age 92, of Ephrata, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Ephrata Manor. She was the loving wife of Henry E. Gerlich, who preceded her in death in 2003.

Born in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Cirillo and Bonifacia Brito. She moved to New York City at the age of 14 years to complete her education. She met and married her late husband Henry in 1943, during the war years.

Carmen was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New Holland, and prior to her retirement to Pennsylvania, had worked as a Department Supervisor and Spanish languages Interpreter for JP Morgan Chase Bank in Manhattan New York. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening roses, antiquing, movies and spending time with friends and family.

Carmen is survived by her daughter Cynthia Gerlich Collins, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and by her son Henry Gerlich Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 150 Water St., New Holland, PA 17557 with Father Walter Guzman officiating. Interment will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11 AM at the church prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carmen’s memory may be made to The American Red Cross. Arrangements by Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.
