Dr. C. James Favino, 78, of New Holland, formerly of Dallastown, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016. His wife, Christine A. (Moser) Favino, survives.
Born in Red Lion, he was the son of the late James F. and E. Gladys (Zarfos) Favino and graduated from Red Lion High School, Bucknell University, and Jefferson Medical College. He completed a pathology residency at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and continued on to a career in pathology at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA where he headed the blood bank. He also served as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Northeastern Region of the American Red Cross Blood Services and participated in research on a nationwide breast cancer study.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U. S. Navy.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. After his deep faith in God, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He also greatly enjoyed classical opera, travel, artistic needlepoint, fine dining and books.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Cora Pennock and son James Favino, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland PA 17557 with Dr. Michael Rogers officiating, followed by a private graveside service. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 2-3 PM at the funeral home.
