Laura Mae  Voran
Laura Mae Voran, 94, of New Holland, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at Landis Homes. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Willis R. Voran.

Born in Moundridge, KS, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Peter P. and Emma (Kaufman) Wedel.

Laura Mae was trained as a registered nurse, but after marriage, she and her husband worked together on the family’s egg-producing poultry farm.

She was an active member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also gave her time to the Re-Uzit Shop of New Holland, serving as the board chair at one time.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children: Eileen Voran and W. Ray Voran, Jr. married to Val (Hart); two grandchildren: Benjamin Voran married to Sarah (Clemo); and Sara Voran fiancée of Kris Pursel, all of Brownstown; an unofficially adopted daughter, Denise Strick, Talmage; and a sister DeLores Sawatsky, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by six siblings: Richard Wedel, Silas Wedel, Emma Vogt, Wilma Stucky, Maryann Lawler, Esther Waltner.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, November 5 at 10 a.m. at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 276 W. Main St., New Holland with Pastor Rob Stippich officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9 -10 a.m. Kindly omit flowers.
