Obituary for John MacPherson

John MacPherson, 98, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Garden Spot Village. He was the son of the late Alexander and Janet (Craig) MacPherson and the devoted husband of Clara (Peterson) MacPherson for nearly 76 glorious years.
John was born in Port-Glasgow, Scotland in 1919 and came to America with his family at three years of age. He grew up in Collingdale PA and served in the US Army during WWII. He was stationed on the island of Tinian when the war came to an end. He returned home and was employed by the Philadelphia Suburban Water Company where he managed the graphic arts and printing department.
John trusted Christ as his Savior as a child and his life was never the same. He committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and invested his life in faithful service to Christ. He was artistically gifted and in his retirement he brought enjoyment to many by using a photograph of a home they enjoyed and painting an original miniature replica of it for them. Over the years he has painted over 2,000 of these which have been enjoyed all over the world. He was also a gifted poet who used his gift with words to point the minds of his readers to the Savior he loved so dearly.
In addition to his love for the Lord Jesus Christ, his love and devotion for his wife Clara was a monumental part of his life. Their love story began 80 years ago and their nearly 77 years of marriage stands as a testament of their love for one another. Their love letters during the agonizing war years, during which they were separated, half a world apart, tell a story of their desire to resume their life together and start a family. God honored that desire and they were blessed with three children and many, many happy family times. Through it all, God was directing their steps through all the joy and sorrows of life. The scripture says life is like a tale that is told and the tale of John would have never been complete without Clara. Their loving devotion to their Lord and each other stand as a testimony to God’s amazing goodness and grace.
In addition to his wife Clara, John is survived by his two daughters, Jean Hadden and Beverly McQuade and his son, John MacPherson, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 15th at Monterey Bible Chapel, 53 W. Eby Road, Leola, PA, at 2:00 pm. Friends and family will be received between 1:00 to 2PM with interment to follow the Memorial service.
