Guy J. Fryer, 77, of Denver, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Spangler, he was a son of the late Guy A. and Dorothy M. (Meckley) Fryer. He was married 14 years on Sept. 6 to Elaine M. (Matz) Fryer.
Guy worked 15 years as a coal miner and later for 21 years in New Holland for Advanced Food Products.
He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the New Holland American Legion. He also served with both the Spangler Fire Co. and the Fivepointville Fire Co. as Fire Police Captain. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and attending Native American Indian Pow-Wow’s.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 children, Barbara M. Gallagher of Washington, DC, Karen L. Suchar of Springfield, VA, and Michael Fryer of New Holland; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 step daughters, June Dinger of Ashland, VA, and Lisa Purificato of Vineland, NJ; 4 step granddaughters; and 1 step grandson; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is a step son, John Ray Sheaffer; and 6 brothers and sisters, Violet Hamberger, William Fryer, Thomas Fryer, Anna Mae Tibbott, Gertrude Daisley, and Robert Fryer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28 at 1 pm at Fivepointville Fire Company, 1087 Dry Tavern Rd, Denver, PA 17517. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
