Obituary for Annett S. Hughes (McGlave)

Annett Susan Hughes, 83, of New Holland, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Maple Farm, Akron, PA. She had been a resident of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, since January, 2018.
Born in Chicago, IL she was the daughter of the late Thomas James and Hazel Marie Annett McGlave. She was the last member of her family.
She attended St. Columbanus Grammar School and graduated from Parker High School, Chicago, IL Class of 1952
On December 6, 1952 she married Hugh Robert Hughes of Chicago, IL and they celebrated 61 years of marriage until his death at age 83 on October 16, 2013. They resided in Chicago, then moved to Oak Lawn, IL until moving to Lancaster County in 1966 for Bob’s employment with Ingersoll-Rand of Philadelphia.
They lived in New Holland, then bought a small farm in East Earl raising Angus, hogs and honeybees. Originally known as Black Creek Angus Farm, it was later known as Rainbow Apiaries. Upon Bob’s declining health they moved to New Holland.
In addition to home life, Annett enjoyed several years of employment at New Holland Sales Stables, Bilran Excavating and Horst Construction. She loved her Tuesday morning Women’s Bowling League and volunteered with Bob at the Ephrata Hospital Gift Shop. She was an avid reader of mystery novels, a frequent visitor to New Holland Library, enjoyed crossword puzzles and game shows on TV.
Annett’s greatest joy was raising her children who will miss her dearly. They are a son David husband of Michelle Hughes of East Earl and their daughter Alexis and her son Bryson, daughter, Susan of rural Catawissa, with son Samuel LeVan of Numidia, Columbia County and his companion Ashlie Rodgers, and son, William “Bill” and his wife Tammy of East Earl, with children, Jared Houck, wife Nicole and their children, Hailey and Larsen of New Holland, their daughters, Jennifer wife of Vince Nolt and their children Rylee and Colin, and Courtney Hughes-Brown fiancé of Daniel and son Jameson of Douglasville, PA.
The family would like to extend greatest thanks for their superb care to Maple Farm and Garden Spot Village and to Melinda Fisher of Blue Ball during her recent years at home.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Groff High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private in the Center Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the New Holland Library.
May God Bless Her Irish Soul!
