Karen S. Winey, 73, of New Holland, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Fairmount Homes after a lengthy illness.
Born in Thompsontown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Earl G. and Orpha (Lauver) Leister. She was married 52 years on August 21 to Howard A. Winey.
Karen had a fervent love for the Lord and her family. She loved teaching Bible Study or being involved with helping and loving people. She was a registered nurse and in her earlier years, before having children, she worked in two different hospitals. After children, she developed her love of ministering to others with cards, letters, meals, and helping anyone she could.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two children, Denise (Matthew) Coates of Lancaster, and Kevin (Lori Beiler) Winey of Narvon; seven grandchildren; a sister, Janet (Len) Hoffman of Ephrata; a brother, James (Teresa) Leister of Lewistown; and three brothers-in-law, Larry (Ruth) Winey, Steve Winey, and James (Sherry) Winey all of Mifflintown.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 5 pm at the New Holland Church of the Nazarene, 428 Ranck Road, New Holland. The family will receive friends on Friday at Fairmount Home, Wheat Ridge Chapel, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata from 6-8 pm and on Saturday at the Church from 3:30 – 5 pm.
