Obituary for Irene S. Martin

Irene S. Martin, 89, of 122 Beacon Hill Rd., Ronks, died Monday, January 22, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Irvin H. Martin in 1999 and her second husband Amos Z. Martin in 2017.

Born in Gap, she was the daughter of the late Elam and Elizabeth (Mast) Smoker.

Irene was a waitress for 33 years at Good ‘N Plenty Restaurant.

A founding member of Christian Fellowship Church, she taught children’s Sunday School and sang in the choir.

She fondly remembered reading Pilgrim’s Progress to her sons when they were young. She was blessed to have many friends and recounted how the Lord had been faithful and good to her and her family.

Surviving are three sons: Wayne L. married to Glenda (Martin) Martin, Ronks; Jim I. married to Judy (Myer) Martin, Gordonville, Michael R. married to Linda (Kepiro) Martin, Lancaster; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four sisters: Naomi Byers, Strasburg, Louise married to Paul Miller, Paradise, Erma married to David Clemens, OH, and Jeanette married to Ken Eby, Akron.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Justin Martin and Jay Martin, a great –granddaughter Amber Martin, and three siblings: Arthur Smoker, Pauline Martin, and Elvin Smoker.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11 a.m.at Christian Fellowship Church, 758 Spruce Rd., New Holland with Rev. Dr. Doug Bozung, Pastor Fred Raupp, and Pastor David Horst officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 – 11 a.m. If desired, memorials may be sent to Gideon’s International, Lancaster Northeast Camp, P. O.
