Obituary for David S. Horst

David S. Horst, 92, of 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, passed peacefully into his eternal rest on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Fairmount Homes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mary (Esbenshade) Horst on Sept. 21, 2017.

Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Jacob G. and Mary Jane (Sensenig) Horst.

David had been a farmer, worked at Blue Ball Machine Co., and spent most of his working years as a machinist at Conestoga Wood Specialties.

He was a member of Lichty Mennonite Church where he served as a trustee for 27 years. He was also a member of East End Hunting Club in Lycoming County. David enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hunting and golfing.

Surviving are five children: Elaine married to Glenn Newswanger, Myerstown, Sharon married to Henry Zimmerman, Narvon, David married to Sharon (Adams) Horst, Honey Grove, Darlene married to Edwin Ringler, East Earl, Linda married to Don Weaver, New Holland; a daughter-in-law Linda (Martin) married to Clarence Fasnacht, Leola; 19 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Luke S. married to Ruth (Lichty) Horst, Narvon.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Horst, a granddaughter, Heidi Weaver, and five siblings: Anna Hoover, Lloyd S., Isaac S., Elmer S. and J. Earl Horst.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Fairmount Homes and Hospice & Community Care for the care they gave to both David and Anna Mary.

A funeral will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Lichty Mennonite Church, 1690 Union Grove Rd., East Earl. Interment will be in Weaverland Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Sunday from 5 – 7 p.m. and on Monday from 9 – 10 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
