Obituary for Vera B. Shirk (Hostetter)

Vera B Shirk, 101, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Moravian Manor. She was born and raised in Intercourse and also lived in Paradise and Lancaster.
Born in Leacock Twp., she was a daughter of the late Frank G. and Adda (Bair) Hostetter. Her husband, Durward Shirk, died in 2008.
Vera worked for a time as a looper in a knitting mill and later as a cook at Harvest Drive restaurant in Intercourse.
She was an 85 year member of the Intercourse United Methodist Church and also a member of the Intercourse Lioness club. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and telling stories.
Surviving are five children, Lee D., married to Lynn (Mortimer) Shirk of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Ruth Anne, married to Charles Niemi of Glenwood, MD, Roy D., married to Gail (Caulfield) Shirk of Ft. Myers, FL, L. Jean, married to Nicholas Selch of Lancaster, and James D. Shirk of Venus, TX; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are two sisters and one brother, Gertrude Martin, Enos Hostetter, and Helen Loar.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 1 PM at Moravian Manor, Steinman Hall, 300 W. Lemon St., Lititz with the Rev. Martin Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the Intercourse United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Intercourse United Methodist Church, 39 Queen Road, Intercourse, PA 17534 or to Moravian Manor Benevolence Fund, 300 W. Lemon St., Lititz, PA 17543.
