Obituary for Gladys A. Denlinger

Gladys A. Denlinger
Gladys A. Denlinger, 97, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, formerly of Morgantown, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy. Her husband of 66 years, Harold E. Denlinger, preceded her in death in 2007.

Born in Paradise Twp., she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Maude (Bowermaster) Smeltz.

She was a 1938 graduate of the former Paradise High School and was a homemaker throughout her life. However, her dedicated support of her husband helped to make his business, El-Mor Chevrolet in Morgantown, successful.

She grew up at St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Strasburg and then was an active member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland, serving many years in the nursery. Her strong interest in children’s evangelism led her to hold Good News Clubs in the backyard of her Morgantown home. She also enjoyed being a member of the Elverson Garden Club, traveling and sewing.

Surviving are three sons: H. Merle married to Virginia (Hertzler) Denlinger, Morgantown; Brian E. married to Marilyn (Jones) Denlinger, Morgantown; Gordon R. married to Carolyn (Hastie) Denlinger, Narvon, nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce A. Denlinger and a brother Paul R. Smeltz.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Garden Spot Village Chapel with Pastor Robert Godfrey officiating. Interment will be in Evangelical United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Chapel on Saturday from 9:30 – 11 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be posted at www.groffeckenroth.com.
