Obituary for John W. Burkholder

John W. Burkholder, 84, of Denver, died Thursday, May 18, 2017 at his home.

Born in East Earl, he was the son of the late Michael and Emma (Weaver) Burkholder. He was married to Alverta (Rutt) Burkholder.

John retired in 2006 from Tyson Food in New Holland after39 ½ years. Following his retirement he volunteered at Christian Aid Ministries.

He was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Surviving in addition to his wife are nine children, Linda R., married to Eugene Z. Horst of Newmanstown, Elaine R., married to Mervin Wenger of Womelsdorf, Wilma R., married to Raymond B. Martin of Fleetwood, Earl R., married Ann Louise (Weaver) Burkholder of Narvon, Arlene R., married to Leonard B. Martin of Newmanstown, Dawn R., married to Emory N. Martin of Fleetwood, John R., married to Judy L. (Weaver) Burkholder of Denver, Judy R., married to Lynn D. Strickler of Lititz, and David R., married to Wilma M. (Martin) Burkholder of Reinholds; his step mother, Anna Burkholder of East Earl; four brothers, M. Lloyd, married Anna Mary (Martin) Burkholder of Lebanon, Titus W., married Anna (Sensenig) Burkholder of Gordonville, Leon W., married Vera (Nolt) Burkholder of New Holland, and Frank W., married to Eva (Good) Burkholder of East Earl; and a sister, Arlene W., married to Melvin Z. Horst of Cochranville; 34 grandchildren; and 51 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are three brothers, Melvin W., Raymond W., and Weaver W. Burkholder; and a sister, Edna W. Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 22 at 9 am at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center, 352 Martindale Road, Ephrata, with further services at 9:30 am at Weaverland Mennonite Church with the Bishop Amos G. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 5-8 pm at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center. Kindly omit flowers.
