Obituary for John G. Overly

John G.  Overly
John G. Overly, 91, of Blue Ball, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Hospice & Community Care of Mt. Joy after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Dorothy (Buckwalter) Overly, with whom he shared over 69 years of marriage.

Born in East Earl, John was a son of the late Gilbert and Laura (Horst) Overly.

John was a life-long member of Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, East Earl. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII where he received a Purple Heart and retired from Sperry-New Holland where he worked as a machine operator. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, gardening, and spent many years restoring and building U.S. Civil War era drums.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by 4 sons: Robert C. Overly of Landisville, Thomas A. Overly, husband of Cyndie Collins, of St. Petersburg, FL, David P. Overly, husband of Mary Ann Notari, of Redondo Beach, CA, and John R. Overly, husband of Kristie Overly, of East Earl; 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 5 grandsons, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and 2 sisters.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11 AM at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, 4833 Division Hwy, East Earl, PA 17519 with Rev. Dr. Krisana Poontajak officiating. Interment will be held privately by the family at Ranck’s Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM at the church prior to services.
