Obituary for William E. Yelk

William E.  Yelk
William E. Yelk, 67, of Gordonville, died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital. His wife of 42 years, Sharon K. (Styer) Yelk, survives.

Born in Lancaster, he was a son of C. Hazel (Martin) Yelk of Myerstown and the late H. Alfred Yelk.

Bill proudly served in the US Navy for four years during the Viet Nam War. He was a member of St. John’s Center UCC, the New Holland American Legion, and New Holland VFW Post 7362. He was an avid Ham radio operator, with CW being his favorite. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and playing with his granddaughter.

In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by a son, Erik W. Yelk, husband of Amie L., of Downingtown; two brothers: Robert Yelk, husband of Jan, of Denver, PA, and Richard Yelk of Mohnton; and a granddaughter, Hazel M. Yelk.

He was preceded in death by his father and by his daughter, Beverly A. Yelk.

His funeral will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 2 PM at St. John’s Center UCC, 432 Reading Rd., East Earl, PA 17519. Interment will be at Zeltenreich Cemetery, 752 Hollander Rd., New Holland, PA 17557. Viewings will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland PA 17557 and from 1-2 PM on Sunday at the Church. Online condolences may be posted at www.groffeckenroth.com
