H. Leslie Prizer, age 97, formerly of Parkerford, Phoenixville, and Chester Springs, died June 8, 2016. Born August 30, 1918 in Parkerford, Chester County, Les graduated from the Spring City High School, class of 1936. He attended the Taylor Business School in Philadelphia. He was born son of F. Newton and Ella (Wagner) Prizer. He was married to the late Jean Urner in Phoenixville in 1941. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn and brother, S. Russell Prizer. He is survived by a son, Lorrence N. Prizer, husband of Cecilia P. Pulaski of Spring City, two daughters, Jean L. wife of Joseph A. McCarron of Coatesville and Julienne P., widow of Curt A. Baird of Ellicott City, MD, five grandchildren (Chris Prizer, Kevin McCarron (Michelle), Jennifer Fields (Josh), Katelyn Ottaway (Eric), and Lisa Baird) and eight great-grandchildren (Hayden, Logan, and Sydney Prizer, Bailey, Brooks and Everett McCarron, and Jack and Carter Fields). He is also survived by his good friend Esther Sideman.
Mr. Prizer was drafted into the United States Army in 1942, served as company clerk in Headquarters Company at New Cumberland Army Reception Center and overseas in the 197th General Hospital as statistician, discharged in 1946. In January 1947, was employed by the B. F. Goodrich Tire Company, Oaks, PA in the Purchasing Department and rose to senior Buyer. He retired in 1982. Also in 1947, he joined the Phoenixville Lions Club, and served as President, Treasurer and Chairman of various fund raising committees and events. He and his wife moved to New Holland in September 1987 and he continued his Lions Club membership in the New Holland Lions Club.
Born and raised in the Baptist faith, he and his wife joined the First Church of Christ Scientist, Phoenixville, PA where he was property chairman for over 40 years. Les also served his church as President, Treasurer, and most recently, as church historian.
Les and his wife traveled extensively in the US and overseas. His interests were in Boy Scouting, sports, reading, and traveling. But it was his love of family that brought him his greatest joy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 with visitation at 1:00PM and Service at 1:30PM in the Chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland PA 17557. A private burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Spring City, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 1200 Main St., Phoenixville, PA 19460.
