Obituary for Ray S. Troop

Ray S.  Troop
Ray S. Troop, 97, of New Holland, formerly of Churchtown, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Garden Spot Village.
Born in Narvon, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Thora “Ruth” (Smith) Troop. He was married 75 years on May 31 to Dorothy V. (Clark) Troop.
Ray was a 1934 graduate of New Holland High School. He worked 26 years at the Berkshire Knitting Mills in Wyomissing and later 28 years for Enterprise Telephone Company (now Frontier Telephone Co.), retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Churchtown United Methodist Church where he formerly served as treasurer and also on the pastor parish committee. He was also a life member of the Caernarvon Fire Company and the Independent Telephone Pioneers.
During WWII he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Stokes in the Pacific Theater.
Ray was a fun loving man who enjoyed making ice cream along with his Tuesday night card games with family and friends and playing Parcheesi and Old Maid. He also enjoyed farming.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Donna M., married to Carl “Butch” Styer of Narvon; 4 grandchildren, David Troop, Scott Troop, Robin Troop Finkill, and John Troop; 9 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and 2 daughters-in-law, Jackie (McCoy) Troop of New Holland, and Linda (Seifert) Troop of New Holland.
Preceding him in death are 2 sons, Gerald R. and Gene I. Troop; and 3 sisters, Leah McClure, Maude Fink, and Hazel Lear.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 18 at 10:30 am at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, with Chaplain Chet Yoder officiating. Interment will be in the United Methodist Cemetery of Churchtown with military honors. Viewing will be held on Monday at Garden Spot Village Chapel from 9:30 – 10:30 am. Kindly omit flowers.
