Obituary for Gerald R. Troop

Gerald R. Troop, 74, of New Holland, formerly of Churchtown, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Ephrata, he was the son of Ray and Dorothy (Clark) Troop of New Holland. He was married to Jackie (McCoy) Troop for 51 years on Dec. 28.

Gerald retired in 2002 from Frontier Communications after 43 years of service. In retirement he worked for Martin Tire and Alignment in Morgantown.

He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968, during the Vietnam War.

He was a lifetime member of the Churchtown United Methodist Church. He was also a volunteer fireman in his younger years with the Caernarvon Fire Company.

He was known for his contagious laugh, sense of humor, and always willing to help others. He enjoyed funnel cakes, Monopoly with the grandchildren, summer family beach vacations, wood working, bluegrass music, John Wayne movies, building dollhouses, and serving his church and community.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two children, Scott R., married to Ruth (Gehr) Troop of New Holland, and Robin L., married to Robert Finkill of Lititz; four grandchildren, Ashley(Troop), married to Travis Martin, Bradley Troop, Brooke Finkill, and Abbey Finkill; four great grandchildren, Jayse and Jayla Troop and Cole and Harrison Martin; a sister, Donna, married to Carl Styer of Churchtown; and a sister-in-law, Linda Troop of New Holland, widow of twin brother Gene.

Preceding him in death in addition to his twin brother is a son, Bret Ray Troop in 1966.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21 at 11:00 am at Churchtown United Methodist Church, 2170 Main St., Narvon, PA 17555 with the Reverend David Kling officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:30 - 11:00 am. Interment will be in the United Methodist Cemetery of Churchtown.
