Obituary for Edith B. James (Bitler)

Edith B.  James (Bitler)
Edith B. James, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA, on February 10, 2013. Edith was preceded in death by her husband William A. James, Jr., in 2001.

Born in Birdsboro, she was the daughter of the late Ralph David and Ina Josephine (Akerblom) Bitler. She was a 1944 graduate of Albright College with a B.S. in Science and Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at Pottstown Junior High School and second grade at Daniel Boone Elementary School.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a volunteer at Eastern Lanc. Co. Library. She had received many awards in floral arranging and was a member of the Pottstown Garden Club.

Edith enjoyed raising her family, entertaining, gardening, cooking, birding, the beach and sunbathing. She loved playing tennis, bingo and the Phillies. Edith was a caring and compassionate Christian woman whose unconditional love touched many lives.

She is survived by her children, Sue E., married to Brian Goldberg of Douglassville, Elizabeth “Betsy”, married to John Fickes of Mifflinburg, and William A. James, III, married to Cynthia Adams, of Lafayette, NJ; three grandchildren, Courtney, Channin and William James, IV. Also, surviving are her brothers William and Leonard Bitler, both of Birdsboro, and Ralph D. Bitler of New Holland.

She was preceded in death by a sister Olga Dutzer.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA, with the Rev. David Klepper officiating. Interment will be in Birdsboro Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Chapel. Contributions in memory of Edith may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 221 E.
